History
The year was 1992. Local individuals who were alarmed at the statistics documenting high rates of suicide among gay and lesbian teens recruited volunteers to conduct a support group for Sarasota-area youth.
Eighteen years later, what began as a small group of volunteers with a pager and a strong desire to help LGBT teens in crisis, has grown into one of the most successful support organizations for LGBT youth in the nation!
Today, ALSO Out Youth provides peer support services, social activities, educational programs and workshops, advocacy, and referrals for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and questioning youth ages 13 to 21, their families, friends, and the community, thereby enhancing self-esteem and promoting healthy dialogue.
