"If Only There'd Been an 'ALSO' When I Was Younger..."
If ALSO had a dollar for every time we've heard someone utter that phrase, we could sit back and take a break from fundraising for many months to come!
There are a number of youth organizations that have enjoyed a long history in our community and communities across the United States. GLBT youth organizations, on the other hand, are relatively new additions to the non-profit world. And while GLBT youth have more resources available to them than ever before, most communities have limited or no services designed specifically for sexual minority youth.
What started out as a weekly peer support group in 1992 has grown into one of the largest GLBT organizations in the state of Florida. ALSO offers social activities, workshops, one-on-one individual attention and crisis support for GLBT youth; leadership-building activities; job search and career assistance; diversity training for youth professionals; public outreach; HIV testing and education, and more. While our primary service areas are Sarasota and Manatee Counties, we also work with youth from surrounding counties, such as Charlotte, DeSoto, and Pinellas. No one is turned away.

ALSO Out Youth’s mission is to promote the health, safety, and personal growth of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and questioning youth. We strive to end all forms of violence, harassment, and discrimination based on real or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity.
It is our vision that all persons be able to fulfill their potential and live their lives with honesty and dignity, without having to pretend, lie, or hide due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.
WE SERVE: Sarasota and Manatee counties on the Southwest Coast of Florida. We also serve many underserved communities throughout the region, including: Sarasota, Bradenton, North Port,
Venice, Englewood, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda,
Ellenton, and Palmetto.
